It is the Eve before America celebrates her birth - Independence Day, July 4th. In a July 3, 1776 letter to his wife, John Adams declared that the signing of the Declaration of Independence should be a "great anniversary Festival" and "solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more."
"A year later, Congress itself ordained the tradition, enjoying in Philadelphia "a grand exhibition of fireworks, which began and concluded with thirteen rockets on the commons," according to the Evening Post. The celebratory firing of muskets, artillery and other explosives was a carryover from colonial days. "What was different about it is they began to have the fireworks represent the 13 states," James Heintze, a retired librarian emeritus of American University and author of the "Fourth of July Encyclopedia," says. "The numerical symbolism became very important for the Fourth of July."Boston also saw a fireworks display in 1777. In the following years, the tradition spread through the Boston area to New York and other cities, with various papers reporting colorful displays lighting the sky at the time." (read more..)
Everyone remembers their childhood day celebrations with family and friends on the 4th of July.  Good memories!  My family always made it one of the grandest days of the year.  In those days, all the aunts, uncles and cousins would meet in a town named Wakefield, MA.   Wakefield held a two hour parade with marching bands and floats; picnic by the lake, while the bands continued to play right up until the 9PM firework display.  One of my uncle's belonged to the Drum and Bugle band called the "Norman Prince", often referred to as the "Princemen".  Uncle Arthur had five sons and his memory is alive today, as much as it was during those first celebrations at Lake Quannapowitt  I can't locate a video of the Norman Prince in the early 1950's, but similar to their band is the following video:

Sixty years have passed and many changes to the landscape of America.    After WWII, the war my father and uncles fought in, more wars followed - from the Korean War, Vietnam War, right up to today's War on Terror in Iraq and Afghanistan. Recently, President Obama stated "the War on Terror is over".  Oh, how I wish that were true, but it is clear the Islamic terrorists have not received the message, nor have they waved a white flag and the wars continue throughout the world; from the Middle East to Iraq and back again, to the shores of the United States and the Boston Bombers.

Alan Caruba, in his article "Not So Happy Fourth of July" expresses the sentiments of many American patriots today.  He says, in his closing remarks:
"Recently the President gave a speech in which he said that “climate change” was the greatest threat to the nation and announced new policies to limit the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the Earth’s atmosphere. This is so utterly absurd that it defies the evidence of an Earth that continues to cool over the period of the last seventeen years. It ignores the fact that CO2 plays no role in climate change and has actually increased during the time the Earth has been cooling. This is one more diversion from the very real threats to the Constitution and our freedoms.
We have a Congress now that routinely passes bills exceeding a thousand to two thousand pages, often without reading them. The corruption this implies is a threat to the future of the nation.
The government the Founding Fathers feared would happen is the government we now have.
It is not a happy Fourth of July."
Politically, the past five years have not been the best of years for America.  Unfortunately, what many Americans surmised was happening within this administration, have proven true.  The scandals revealed out of Washington, D.C. have have sent shock waves throughout our nation (and abroad), as we come to learn the extent of our government's attack on individuals and organizations by the Internal Revenue Services and NSA.  Undermining the U.S. Constitution is not a "scandal" - it is criminal and treasonous.  Those sworn into office to protect this great nation have sided with the enemies of America; aided and abetted them, sending them comfort in the way of military equipment and billions of dollars - all under the guise of "national interests".

America's national interests should be that of defending our nation from enemies both foreign and domestic; it should be supporting our allies; it should be hearing "we the people" and not "we the Islamic terrorists".  When did we begin to drift so far from the laws of this land, to those of nations who do not recognize democracy?!  The pyramids of Egypt are not America's national monuments.  It has only been 12 years since that fateful day - September 11, 2001 - when the 19 Arab Muslims attacked our national monuments; the Pentagon, the Twin Towers in New York City, and what could have been an even worse tragedy in Washington, DC, became the graveside in fields of Pennsylvania. That day will never be forgotten, nor are we able to "move forward", as President Obama wishes us to, as long as one troop is forced to fight these same terrorist organizations sprinkled in Africa, Yemen, Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, and now, Egypt.

Yes, Egypt, where our President sent 400 Marines for NINE MONTHS, to act as a "multinational force", in riot patrols.  How safe do you think our Marines are, when there are 17 MILLION Egyptians rioting in the streets of Cairo?!  Did President Obama bypass this through Congress?  Since when has the United States become an extension of the UN peacekeepers?

Is it time Americans stood up and said, "Enough is enough"?  Is it time American patriots demanded that the persons responsible for acts against the citizens of the United States take responsibility for their actions?  If the "buck stops here" and "here" means the desk within the White House, then this President and all his men need to come forward and explain to the American people exactly what they intend to do to stop the irresponsible, criminal, treasonous actions within the halls of this Federal Government.

Yesterday, someone told me that American patriots appear to be acting like un-Americans, in that we are speaking out against a government gone rogue, when he feels no matter what happens, our support should be first, to this president and our leaders.  Really?  My response is  the most un-American, cowardly act we can commit is to remain silent, while our freedom and liberties slip away by the actions of a handful of politicians too lazy to protect the interests of this nation - a nation fought for with the blood of our forefathers - and a nation fought for by American men and women today.  If their lives are worth anything, it is our duty to speak now, for the sake of America's future generations.

God bless America!
